Before the Dying of the Light aka Our Dark 70s

«Our Dark 70s» is an archival-footage film which reveals the spirit of optimism and the artistic production of an era that was censored all too soon. Assembling fragments of works (film, photography, audio) and blending them with interview statements by the protagonists, the film tells the story of this very unique period in Morocco’s history known as “The Years of Lead”.

Ali Essafi, born in Fez in 1963, is one of Morocco’s foremost documentary filmmakers and video artists, following in the footsteps of Ahmed Bouanani.
